The Bray Jazz Festival, celebrating its 10th anniversary, has produced a programme with some substance. The Mermaid Arts Centre features three eye-catching programmes, all double bills. Tonight the great Mathias Eick arrives with his group, with support from Morla. Tomorrow sees vibes and marimba star Stefon Harris leading a quintet, with the Sardjoe-Buckley-Guilfoyle trio sharing the bill. And Sunday features Trio Sud, with Tommy Halferty's Trio in support.
Other noteworthy bands include Rez Abbasi’s quartet tomorrow and singer Carmel McCreagh’s group on Sunday. www.brayjazz.com.
Meanwhile, the City of Derry Jazz Big Band Festivalruns until Sunday. Among its headliners are Jools Holland, Dave Lyttle with Soweto Kinch, Digby Fairweather (tonight), and the Eri Yamamoto Trio and the Moncef Genoud Quintet (tomorrow). www.cityofderryjazzfestival.com.
