UNFRAMED AT MAN-MADE IMAGES: DOUBLE-TAKE, Man-Made Images Gallery, Mountcharles, Co Donegal Nov 29-Feb 19 074-9735928
Double-Take brings together work by eight photographers, four from The Netherlands and four based in Ireland - though not necessarily Irish.
What unites the work, say gallerists Marcel Otten and Martha M Otten, is that all the images "provoke a sense of eeriness, a stillness which will move one to the core, an invitation to take another look. Hence the subtitle."
There is visual poetry in the inventive, imaginative approaches of all the photographers. Dolph Kessler creates virtuoso tableaux while Ilse Schrama generates rich graphic textures and a sense of mystery, something that also applies to Joby Hickey.
Marie Cecile Thijs invests her subjects with a monumentality. There's a touch of magic to Spanish-born Bohoe's work. Ireland looks irresistible in Marian van de Veen's lyrically beautiful studies, Gail McGowan is known for her extensive work in Fermanagh, but ranges further afield in her visually lush work High Brow Poker. And Stuart Quate is extremely painterly in his approach.
This ambitious and optimistic show is intended to be the first of a annual series.
