Eilís O’Connell and Gwen O’Dowd, highly regarded artists in their own right, are not the most obvious of partners in a dual exhibition. Yet their obvious differences only serve to disguise an underlying artistic sympathy. Both strive gradually and carefully to create beautifully textural works.

O’Connell makes sculptures of impeccable form, usually derived from nature and carried through to an incredible level of finish. In her paintings, O’Dowd’s enduring preoccupation (above) is the elemental meeting of water and land. Refined over many distinct series, her pictures present sumptuous, finely honed surfaces that elegantly encapsulate huge natural forces.

This show not only unites the work of the two artists, it offers a capsule retrospective view of both, with pieces drawn from the past three decades.
