The Russian-born German violinist Alina Pogostkina returns to the National Concert Hall on Tuesday for a performance of Sibelius’s Violin Concerto.

The Sibelius Concerto has a very special place in her career – she was just 22 when she took the top prize at the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki in 2005. She’s performing on Tuesday with London’s Philharmonia under Vladimir Ashkenazy in a programme that opens with Sibelius’s evergreen Karelia Suite and ends with Rachmaninov’s longest and most popular symphony, his Second.
