MEALY's auctioneers move from Co Kilkenny to Dublin's Tara Tower Hotel for next week's two day sale of rare books, periodicals, manuscripts and assorted ephemera. Starting at 10.30 a.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday, the sale of more than 1,700 lots is replete with interest, not least the important collection of material relating to James Connolly and The Workers Republic, the subject of a feature in this newspaper last week; the entire collections carries an estimate of £12,000-£16,000.

Equally fascinating is a collection of manuscript diaries and other material relating to Cork Harbour Water Club and Yacht Club, which later became the Royal Cork Yacht Club. Dating from 1806-1821, these papers are expected to fetch £4,000-£6,000. There are a number of items relating to the Howard Bury family and Charleville Forest in Tullamore, Co Offaly, such as the camera used by the late Colonel K. Howard Bury on his travels in the Himalayan mountains and ascent of Mount Everest in 1920-21. Colonel Howard Bury's papers were sold by Mealy's two years ago for £36,000 and his camera is estimated to make £500-£750.

A large folio of the poet and artist William Blake's illustrations of the Book of Job could make £8,000-£12,000, while a rare copy of Shelley's Lyrical Poems, printed by the Ballantyne Press and dating from 1898, ought to sell for £2,500-£3,500. A first edition of Robert and James Adam's The Works in Architecture from 1778 carries an estimate of £3,500-£4,500, and among the several lots relating to Jack B. Yeats are a copy of the artist's Life In The West Of Ireland (estimate £700-£900) and Frank O'Connor's A Lament For Art O'Leary, illustrated by Yeats and printed by the Cuala Press (£700-£1,000).
