Trade surplus up 23% in 2000

The Republic's trade surplus rose 23 per cent to £22 billion in 2000 as exports continued to soar. Preliminary figures show exports in January 2001 amounted to £5.89 billion from £6.1 billion in December and 45 per cent ahead of last year's figure.
