Up to 40 jobs could be cut from the Dublin office of Marrakech, which offers businesses an internet-based platform for procurement.

Staff at the Dublin-based technology company were yesterday being briefed by management about a cost-cutting programme that would lead to job losses at the company.

Further cuts could come at its overseas offices. The company employs around 180 people in software development in Dublin and at its offices in London, Paris, Mexico City, Singapore and Boston.

Marrakech, which was founded in December 1998 with backing from Mr Denis O'Brien and Mr Leslie Buckley, made 15 people redundant in April this year.

Mr Colin Lewis, head of marketing at the company, said today that no final decision on job cuts had been made yet - but that a decision would be made early next week.

"We are currently restructuring due to the downturn in technology spending," he said.
