SOAP giant Procter and Gamble has reached an agreement to buy the maker of Tampax for more than £1 billion sterling. The US deal for Tambrands Inc is the biggest acquisition ever for Procter and Gamble. Tambrands will no longer exist as an independent company after about 60 years in business. Tampax tampons are its only product. The group had revenue of £22 billion for the fiscal year that ended last June.
