RESTRUCTURING:ALLIED IRISH BANKS has reorganised the structure of its Republic of Ireland unit and Bank of Ireland has announced a shake-up of senior management that will see a number of executives take up new jobs within the financial institution.
The two institutions, who have received €3.5 billion in capital from the Government, unveiled the changes to staff yesterday.
Robbie Henneberry, newly-installed head of AIB’s core Irish unit, said in an internal memo that the structure to be put in place next week would streamline and shorten the lines of communication from the business to the management team and ensure greater business representation on the bank’s management team.
While AIB previously had three area divisions in its Irish units – Dublin, South and East-West – it will have two divisions in the new structure: East, encompassing Dublin, and South and West.
Gerry Griffin, previously head of the East-West area, has been appointed head of card issuing. Declan Lawlor, previously head of the Dublin area, has been appointed head of human resources.
Under the changes at Bank of Ireland, Des Crowley will become chief executive of a new division, retail (Ireland UK). The new arm takes in Irish branch networks and business banking in Ireland and Britain.
