DUBLIN:THE ROYAL College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) has an agreement with the Cleveland Clinic, in Ohio, that will result in collaboration in medical device research and innovation.
RCSI says that the partnership will assist it to identify gaps in the medical devices market and allow it to partner with the Cleveland Clinic in order to conduct clinical trials.
Prof Oscar Traynor, director of the national surgical training centre at RCSI said the agreement would help "position Ireland at the forefront in Europe as an innovation hub and an innovator in clinical care".
Among the specialities to benefit from the collaboration will be orthopaedics, cardiovascular disease and general surgery, according to Prof Traynor.
The Cleveland Clinic is a not-for-profit US-based academic medical centre and has physicians working in more than 100 specialities.
