Profits at Cafe Sol, the Dublin sandwich and coffee shop chain, doubled to €900,000 in the year to March 31st last, according to company accounts just filed.

Gross profit increased to €4.8 million from €3.3 million, while operating profits rose to €1 million from €534,000.

The company had retained profits of €2.2 million at the end of the year. The firm's cash reserves increased from €194,000 to €753,000 during the year. The company had shareholders' funds of €2.7 million at the end of the year.

Cafe Sol has 11 outlets, all based in the southside of Dublin city centre.

It targets primarily business customers, opening its shops between Monday and Friday during business hours. Its head office is located on Lower Baggot Street.

The directors of the company, Emmet Daly and his father Aidan, shared remuneration of €150,000 in the year to March 31st, 2007, down from €169,000 the previous year.

Emmet Daly owns just under 90 per cent of the business; his father owns the remainder.
