POWERGEN backed down from a possible confrontation with the electricity industry regulator yesterday by announcing it would complete the sale of two power stations next month.

It will complete the deal with Eastern Group, bought by Hanson last year for £2.5 billion sterling, on July 2nd. Eastern is to pay PowerGen £450 million over eight years.
