THE National Social Services Board has just brought out a net computerised citizen information database which, for the first time, brings together up-to-date information on such matters as health, social welfare, taxation, labour law, housing, family law, citizenship, consumer rights and the rights of citizens here and in the EU.
There are 17 different categories of information on the service with a few others on the way, including a benefits calculation package that will allow the user to integrate means tests, tax allowances and other related entitlements to their personal situation.
The system, which is accessible through 83 registered information offices around the country, including certain citizens information centres and advice bureaux, community law centres, job centres and social welfare offices, is easy to use and consists of over 1,600 documents ranging from one to 20 pages long. Though currently restricted to the 83 distribution points, the database will be available to the civil service by the end of this year and externally on the Internet next year.
