Name: Rody Molloy.

Position: FAS director general, since last month.

Why he is in the news: FAS mounts a jobs fair in South Africa this weekend as part of its continuing efforts to lure foreign workers into the State.

Background: Replaced Dr John Lynch last month, when Dr Lynch left to become chairman of CIE Group.

Career: Mr Molloy is long enough in the public service to have worked with Jack Lynch when he was Taoiseach. He worked in the old Department of Industry and Commerce and at the Geneva round of trade talks.

Family: Married to Noreen, they have four children, all at school.

Hobbies: Likes all sports. His passion is hurling.
