Wall Street stocks closed mostly higher yesterday. The Dow Jones average of 30 industrial stocks rose 45.80 points to close at 5,705.23, rallying into the close after spending most of the day with a gain nearer to 20 points.

Advances outnumbered declines by a 13 to 10 margin on the New York Stock Exchange, with 1,325 up, 1,000 down and 810 unchanged.

NYSE volume totalled 516.45 million shares, against 439.29 million in the previous session.

The NYSE composite index rose 2.06 to 357.02, snapping a 10 session losing streak. The Standard and Poor's 500 stock index rose 4.73 to 666.83.
