WALL Street stocks ended at new highs after swinging widely, rising first with bonds, then falling into negative territory before recovering.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 22.03 points to close at 5,630.49.
The blue chip index had been up more than 50 points in the first hour of trading, then fell to minus nearly that amount in the afternoon before regaining.
The Nasdaq composite also squeaked into record high territory after flopping around all day along with other broad indexes.
Stocks were stopped in their tracks by the bond market, which first rose over half of a point but quickly dropped.
The 30 year Treasury bond ended the day down more than a point and yielding 6.4 per cent.
