Financial shares led an improved performance on the Irish market yesterday with the big four financials - AIB, Bank of Ireland, Irish Life and Irish Permanent - all closing up on the day. The Dow Jones closed up 87.30 points on the back of better than expected company earnings and chairman of the Federal Reserve Mr Alan Greenspan's confident outlining of interest rate policy for dealing with inflation in his address to Congress.
