US share prices slumped in late trade, with the Dow closing 119 points lower, as investors worried about blue chip earnings, trade tensions with Japan and the outlook for the semiconductor sector.

Earlier share prices in Dublin drifted lower, despite the boost that positive US consumer prices and a strong Wall Street opening gave international markets. Financial shares were the weakest with most drifting off a few pence.
