A Cork-based food ingredients and cheese manufacturer, Carbery Group, has acquired Sensus, an American natural essence and extract manufacturer based in Ohio, for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition of the company by Carbery is intended to further Carbery’s position in the global flavours market, according to chief executive Dan MacSweeney. As a result of the deal, Carbery’s flavour division, Synergy, will get access to technology used by Sensus in the manufacture of natural essences. It also strengthens Synergy’s presence in the fast-growing tea and coffee sector.

Carbery, which has its headquarters in Ballineen, Co Cork, employs 400 people and reported turnover of €220 million in 2010.
