A TRIBUTE show to Sil Fox on RTÉ 1 last Sunday night included a clip from the 1980s featuring a gag about the recession.

“And the recession?” says Sil to his audience.

“You can’t get a job, sure you can’t? There was a fella drowning in the Liffey, so this [other] fella dived in and swam out to him. Your man said: ‘Thanks very much for saving me.’

DENIS O’BRIEN’S Digicel has failed in a legal challenge in Jamaica against two senior executives of rival Lime, according to reports from the Caribbean.

Digicel had taken contempt proceedings against the two senior executives of Lime – the rebranded Cable Wireless business – but the action was dismissed. Digicel was ordered to pay all legal costs incurred by Lime. The proceedings were in response to a legal action taken by Lime earlier this year after Digicel was alleged to have blocked its international call circuits. Reports said Lime would press ahead with its lawsuit.

FORGET AN Bord Snip Nua, Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan should hire the bright spark in insurer Hibernian Aviva who suggested it should remove the paper cups from the coffee machines dotted around its offices and give each of its 2,000-plus staff a travel mug.

It is estimated that the move will save the insurer a frothy €100,000.
