FORMER BROWN Thomas boss Nigel Blow has been hired as a consultant to run the rule over Arnotts following its recent €260 million restructuring.

The appointment was made by Washington-based Paladin Capital Group, which was engaged by Anglo Irish Bank and Ulster Bank, Arnotts’ financial backers.

A spokesman for Arnotts said the appointments were “standard practice” in the wake of a major financial restructuring.

Paladin has been charged with looking at the future direction of the business and the current performance of the department store.

IT SURVIVED a World War and several recessions, but the Publicity Club of Ireland has decided to call it a day after 87 years.

A meeting recently brought the curtain down on the venerable institution, which was founded in 1923.

The club numbered advertising and marketing executives and media types among its membership, but membership declined in the Celtic Tiger years.

As a final gesture, the club’s modest surplus is being distributed to charities.

While Aer Lingus has been occupied with its restructuring plan, Aer Arann has been busily rebranding its aircraft for its new franchise service with the country’s flag carrier.

Four Aer Arann ATR 72s, will be repainted in the colours of the new Aer Lingus regional service.

The new-look regional service will be unveiled today by Aer Lingus chief executive Christoph Mueller and Aer Arann boss Paul Schutz.
