Industry output rises

 

Industrial turnover in transportable goods increased by 17.6 per cent in June compared to the same month in 1997, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) said yesterday. However, turnover of such goods for the second quarter as a whole, on a seasonally-adjusted basis, shows a drop of 2.5 per cent compared to the previous year. The CSO said that, for June, there had been a 33 per cent jump in the transport of capital goods, a 41 per cent increase in electrical machinery, a 28 per cent rise in office and data processing machinery and a 27 per cent growth in pharmaceuticals. There was a decrease of 22 per cent in the clothing sector.
