650 new retail jobs for Belfast
Two multimillion-pound retail investment proposals could deliver 650 jobs for Belfast. The British discount department store TJ Hughes, which has 52 stores in Britain, plans to open its first Northern Ireland store this month.
TJ Hughes said it will create up to 150 full and part-time jobs at its £1.6 million store in Cityside Retail Park in north Belfast.
Sainsbury’s has formally applied for planning permission to develop a 60,000 sq ft store in east Belfast, creating up to 500 full- and part-time jobs. Construction could generate up to 250 jobs.
Commercial Court to rule on Ryanair case
Dublin, Cork and Shannon airport authorities have alleged persistent delays by Ryanair in paying airport charges in proceedings brought against the airline over outstanding charges. Since proceedings were issued last month, Ryanair has paid some €1.4 million due but is disputing whether a further €1.5 million is owed.
Mr Justice Kelly transferred the action to the fast-track Commercial Court.
Fed to keep oversight of 23 biggest banks
Banks with more than $100 billion of assets will be overseen by the US Federal Reserve in a regulatory reform plan that is a partial victory for the central bank after months of attacks in Congress.
