The 29-member council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland meets on June 23rd to appoint a committee to consider the appeals against the findings of the Blayney Committee report.
The report cannot be published until the appeals procedure has been completed, according to the institute. Set up in September 1997, the committee investigated possible professional misconduct by institute members named in the McCracken tribunal report into payments by Dunnes Stores.
It produced an interim statement in April 1999 stating that it had established a prima-facie case following investigations and hearings.
Earlier this month the institute said the Blayney report had been completed but members and member firms had appealed the findings.
The members named in the McCracken report included former Taoiseach Mr Charles Haughey, Dunnes Stores trustee Mr Noel Fox, the Dublin accountancy firm Oliver Freaney which acted as auditor to Mr Michael Lowry's refrigeration company, Streamline Enterprises and as financial consultant to Dunnes Stores, and Deloitte & Touche which was joint auditor with Oliver Freaney to Dunnes Stores.
