IBEC last night added its voice to the widespread condemnation of the US terrorist attacks. In a statement, director general Mr Turlough O'Sullivan said that IBEC wished to join the Taoiseach and the Government "in its expression of horror at the unspeakable terrorist attacks in the US".

"We are particularly conscious at this time of the debt we owe to the US for its great contribution to peace on the island of Ireland," said Mr O'Sullivan.

Mr O'Sullivan extended sympathy to the families and friends of the victims.
