A US biopharmaceutical company has confirmed that it plans to apply for planning permission in September for a new factory in Co Cork which will create up to 200 positions when fully operational.

Sangart, which is headquartered in San Diego, announced earlier this month that it plans to set up a plant at Carrigtwohill. Operations Ireland vice-president Walter Matzmorr said that he expected the planning permission would be submitted in the second half of September.

Some 120 jobs will be created during construction of the plant, which is expected to start towards the end of the first quarter of 2013, with the facility due to be mechanically complete by the second quarter of 2014.

Production is targeted to start in 2015.
