German inflation data yesterday showed that price pressures, the European Central Bank's main argument against further rate cuts, were fading fast.
Preliminary data showed the German consumer price index rose by 2.7 per cent on a 12-month basis in July, substantially slower than the 3.1 per cent recorded the previous month. The slowdown in inflation in the euro-zone's biggest economy was attributable to lower fuel prices.
