FIRSTSOURCE, ONE of India’s fastest-growing outsourcing companies, is to create an additional 100 jobs at its call centre in Derry.

The centre, celebrating its third anniversary this month, currently employs nearly 1,000 people.

Sean Harnett, general manager of the Derry centre, said Firstsource had recruited some excellent staff in the city, and many of them were continuing to develop their careers with the company. “We are continuing to grow and are still recruiting,” he added.

Firstsource, which has more than 25,000 employees globally, was among the first India-based business processing outsourcing (BPO) companies to invest in Northern Ireland. The firm, which provides call centre and business process management services, also operates a contact centre in Belfast which employs 400 people.

Firstsource recently won the UK Trade Investment’s Investor of the Year category in the UK-India Business Awards.

It is currently the sixth largest Indian investor in the UK.

The group, which lists Fortune 500 and FTSE 100 companies among its clients, provides support to the banking, financial services, telecoms, media and healthcare sectors. Recent research by the group suggests the downturn may prompt more companies to outsource to BPOs.

Meanwhile, in Belfast, a food-to-go-firm has confirmed plans to create 41 jobs. The Brunch Box Sandwich Company plans to expand its business in a move which will create job opportunities at its production facility in Dundonald Enterprise Park.
