AIB is moving about 1,000 workers based in buildings around Dublin to its headquarters in the south of the city over four years to save €18 million a year, the lender said in an e-mail to staff.

Staff based in the International Financial Services Centre in Dublin's north docklands will be first affected, moving by mid-July, the bank told workers on August 19th. AIB spokesman Ronan Sheridan confirmed the contents of the e-mail, seen by Bloomberg News.

The Central Bank in March ordered AIB to sell or run down €19.4 billion of loans by the end of 2013. The lender, which currently has 3,200 staff working in its Dublin headquarters, outlined plans in April to eliminate more than 2,000 jobs by the end of next year.
