Fibre optics for sewers

CityNet Telecommunications, a US firm proposing to lay a fibre network in the Dublin's sewers, has signed a landmark licence and access agreement with the city of Vienna, Austria.

This agreement will permit CityNet to use Vienna's sewer system to build last-mile fibre optic networks.

Vienna is the firm's first European city and the fourth city overall to sign such an agreement.

CityNet has given presentations to Dublin Corporation and several other local authorities throughout the Republic but no agreements have been signed.
