EUROTUNNEL passenger and freight figures continued their post fire recovery last month, it was announced yesterday. The figures were boosted by the early Easter. The number of people travelling on the high speed Eurostar rose from 389,069 in March 1996 to 500,899 in March 1997. The amount of railfreight carried through the tunnel also rose from 207,417 tonnes in March 1996 to 230,753 tonnes last month.

The number of cars carried on Le Shuttle freight trains fell from 152,875 in March 1996 to 149,619 in March 1997.
