THE brilliant conversion of a fifth minute try secured victory for Christian Brothers, Cork in a tightly fought decider in the Munster Schools' Junior Rugby Cup at Musgrave Park yesterday.

CBC had to defend for most of the second half and St Munchin's, Limerick launched a serious challenge when grabbing a try 15 minutes from the end. All the difference, however, was in the goal kicking.

The CBS scrum half, Pat McCarthy, added the points to a corner flag try from winger Alan Bradfield but St Munchin's out half, Darren Hayes, was unsuccessful with a similarly difficult kick after John Lynch had scored for the Limerick side.

St Munchin's also missed a couple of penalty goal chances before they grabbed a try and then CBC, having weathered the storm, finished strongly and were unlucky not to score a second try right at the end.
