IN the High Court yesterday, CountyGlen began an action seeking to consolidate a number of cases it is taking into one main trial which will be heard in three weeks time.

Yesterday, Mr James Connolly SC, for CountyGlen, said his main motion was for consolidation of three actions and he was also seeking directions regarding the trial.

The actions are being taken against businessman Mr John Carway and members of his family and associates against a firm of solicitors and against Anglo Irish BankCorp.

Mr Dan O'Keeffe SC, for the solicitors, told Miss Justice Laffoy that there were eight motions listed between the parties.

Mr Connolly said that, before these were heard, it was necessary to go into the background of the investigation by High Court inspector Mr Frank Clarke, SC, and the court proceedings to date. Mr Clarke had found that the transfer of £1.1 million of the company's money in 1992 without shareholder approval was fraudulent.

It is expected that applications on the motions will begin today.
