The closing date for the 1999 Compaq Ireland Trade Awards has been extended for a further three weeks, due to overwhelming interest, according to the organisers.

The awards, which are cross-Border awards and recognise the importance of trade and business co-operation throughout Ireland, have already attracted more than double last year's number of entries.

The awards may be presented to an individual, company, group or organisation that has over years, contributed significantly to the expansion of trade between Northern Ireland and the Republic. Alternatively companies that have anall-island joint venture into overseas markets can enter.

The overall winner of the award receives £10,000 worth of Compaq Computer equipment, as well as expert advice on computing solutions. Compaq, which employs more than 2,200 people in Ireland, buys around $750 million (£500 million) of computer components here each year.
