Andronics, a Derry-based firm specialising in data communications, won a prestigious technology award organised by the Northern Ireland Industrial Research and Technology Unit in Belfast last night.
The information communication technologies award at the Northern Ireland Innovation in Business Award was shared with Amacis, a Belfast-based firm that develops customer relationship management software.
Andronics, which was founded by Mr Robert Andrews in 1996, specialises in sending and receiving data to and from hard-to-reach locations and mobile vehicles or vessels.
The company uses a variety of communication technologies - including GSM, radio, terrestrial landlines and satellite networks - to connect clients.
The firm recently secured a project with Donegal County Council to monitor a water reservoir in a remote area.
The council can use Andronics's Web-based applications, together with a satellite link, to change the water depth of the reservoir from the council offices.
Andronics is seeking to market its services in the Republic and has established a sales representative in Dublin.
The company is an approved reseller of Orbcomm satellite services in Britain, the Republic, Switzerland, Portugal and the US. This network provides two-way monitoring, tracking and messaging services through a low earth orbit satellite-based data communications system.
This also enables companies to track vehicles worldwide. Andronics is developing a system that enables insurance firms or parents to monitor the speeds of drivers.
