With the busy Christmas period coming up rapidly, The Square Towncentre in Tallaght, Dublin 24, has attracted 15 more retailers which have either opened or are currently fitting out their new shops.
Fashion traders among the new arrivals have all agreed base rents plus between 7 and 10 per cent of turnover in line with rental arrangements in most Dublin shopping centres.
Heading the new arrivals is the Swedish fashion multiple H&M, which will be paying a basic rent of €150,000 for the former JJ Sports 1,086sq m (11,700sq ft) outlet. The sports trader had been paying a rent of €400,000 for the store before it went out of business.
The UK footwear retailer Clarks is almost doubling the size of its shop to 371sq m (4,000sq ft) for which it will be paying a rent of €200,000.
Another top footwear giant, the American retailer Skechers, has leased a 185sq m (2,000sq ft) shop as part of its expansion plans in the Republic. It will be paying a rent of €120,000 plus 10 per cent of turnover for the store, its sixth in this country. The other outlets are at Blanchardstown, Liffey Valley, Henry Street, Mahon in Cork and Crescent in Limerick.
Other new arrivals in The Square will include fashion retailer Carraig Donn, Diesel and discount store Dealz.
Karl Stewart of DTZ Sherry FitzGerald, who handled the lettings, said the latest batch of lettings had brought the total amount of space let this year to almost 3,716sq m (40,000sq ft).
He added that the reopening of the cinema last March had triggered a steady increase in footfall through the centre in recent months.
