McConnells Marketing Communications has been appointed to handle PR and advertising for BreastCheck, the national breast screening programme, which aims to reduce the death rate from breast cancer by at least 20 per cent.

Eight other agencies, including Brindleys and Arks pitched for the account.

The programme, which was announced last month by the Minister for Health, Mr Cowen, will begin in the autumn and the advertising campaign will be timed to coincide with its start date.
