Cable firm to move into Krups facility

Cable company Irish Multichannel will locate its corporate headquarters and call centre at the 164,000 sq

Cable company Irish Multichannel will locate its corporate headquarters and call centre at the 164,000 sq. ft factory formerly occupied by Krups Electronic in Limerick. Krups closed a year ago with the loss of 500 jobs.

The move was announced yesterday by Limerick Enterprise Development Partners, an inter-agency response group set up last November by the Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Ms Harney.

The partnership estimates the business park on the 16-acre site will generate up to 600 new jobs when fully developed.

A spokesman for Irish Multichannel said it would provide an additional 200 jobs on top of the 150 staff and contractors currently employed in Limerick.

He said work would begin on the Krups site next month and the company would be completely relocated within a year.

The Limerick Enterprise Development Partners include Limerick Corporation, Limerick County Council, Shannon Development, the PAUL partnership, the Limerick Enterprise Network, the IBEC Foundation for Investment in Communities and the Catholic diocese of Limerick. It was set up to sustain employment in the area by providing new job opportunities.

The partnership plans to use the former Krups facility as a multipurpose business complex combining private industry use, public service provision and community involvement to ensure the continuation of a significant local employment resource and training.
