SHARE prices ended sharply higher in heavy trading yesterday, rebounding from Friday's sell off in a session led by cyclical and technology stocks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 110.55 points at 5,581 after trading in a 139 point range. Other broader market indexes also advanced.

Volume on the New York Stock Exchange was heavy at 451 million shares, with 1,589 issues higher, 893 lower and 893 unchanged.

Dealers said sentiment was underpinned by gains in government bonds, but investors displayed caution, confining their buying to particular sectors of the market.
