Bank of Ireland is set to continue the good news heralded in its interims when its publishes full-year results on Thursday

Bank of Ireland is set to continue the good news heralded in its interims when its publishes full-year results on Thursday. Analysts are looking for pre-tax profits of #1.04 billion (£819 million), up almost 55 per cent on a year earlier.

While the extraordinary gain from the sale of its US interest, Citizens Financial Group, distorts the figures somewhat, they will still represent a highly successful year for the bank despite pressure on margins from falling interest rates. As much as the figures, it will be the bank's view of the immediate future that will interest brokers.

BP Amoco: Oil group BP Amoco announces first quarter earnings tomorrow, having already seen its shares benefit from strong Shell results this week.

Like Shell, the numbers will be helped by a cut in spending on exploration and production although the scaling back has not been as dramatic and is unlikely to cause the same surprise leap in profits.

Directors will be quizzed on the integration of the merger between BP and Amoco, while stockbroker Greig Middleton has forecast net income of $630 million (#584 million).
