BANK of Ireland is the first Irish bank to announce that from next month, its Pass/Laser card customers will be able to withdraw cash directly from 300,000 ATM's worldwide which display the double circle "Cirrus" symbol.

The new service starts on June 4th in Europe and from June 17th for the rest of the world.

Customers simply key in their usual Pass/Laser PIN number and give the withdrawal instructions; funds are paid in the local currency.

Convenient as this new service is, it is not as cost effective as a home based ATM machine - i.e. 109p. Each foreign Cirrus transaction will cost 2 per cent of the value of the withdrawal or a minimum £2. Foreign exchange transactions are also calculated and deducted from your account.

However, Bank of Ireland customers visiting England should try to use a Midland Bank ATM since Bank of Ireland and Midland have a reciprocal agreement with no additional ATM charges.

Existing customers interested in this new facility should contact their branch. New customers will receive cards with Cirrus included.
