NORTH MONASTERY, Cork won their third successive All Ireland schoolboys basketball title at the Basketball Arena, Tallaght yesterday when a 48-25 victory over Colaiste Eanna added the under 16 A title to their two previous under 14 championship wins.

The rebound dominance of Tim O'Halloran and the individual flair of Garry Dunlea helped the Cork side - described by coach Mark Smith as the best to emerge from the school - to establish a 20-10 half time lead. Irish under 16 international Kevin Reddy imposed himself in the second half.

St Columb's, Derry captured the under 16 C and under 19 C titles, using five players in both finals.

A 42-23 victory over Kells CS in the under 16 C decider got them off to the perfect start. Joint centres Ronan O'Leary and Conor O'Doherty enjoyed rebound supremacy, leaving the rest to Andrew Murray, Mark Toland and Peter Cready in a game that was over by the first quarter, with St Columb's lending 17-0.

The same five had 30 minutes to prepare for the under-19 C final, where they faced a tougher proposition in Royal School, Cavan, who eventually succumbed by 63-49.
