Thomson Holidays is to be ousted from its position as the UK's number one holiday operator after Airtours took control of First Choice Holidays late yesterday.
After a £1 billion bid for First Choice, Airtours has succeeded in buying 49 per cent of shares in the company.
It said that shareholders owning a further 2 per cent had agreed in principle to accept the deal.
