Airport charges at Dublin Airport are lower than the European average, but almost double the average charges at American airports, according to a study by Cranfield University's Air Transport Group.
The survey shows that charges at Dublin are almost 10 per cent below the European average for a Boeing 747, almost 5 per cent lower for an Airbus 300 and also almost 5 per cent for a Boeing 737.
However, when Government taxes are included, Dublin emerges as slightly above the European average.
The study notes that Dublin Airport does not have any noise penalty structure in place and, as a result, there is no incentive for airlines to fly quieter aircraft into Dublin.
"Dublin did appear as one of the study's most expensive locations to purchase fuel," the study states.
Vienna consistently emerges from the survey as the most expensive in Europe for airlines while Luxembourg and Larnaca are the cheapest of the 29 airports surveyed by Cranfield.
