Earnings at US drug firm American Home Products fell in the third quarter despite higher sales of key drugs as the firm took a $950 million charge for continuing liabilities to former users of its diet drugs. The firm employs about 1,500 people at three plants in Ireland, posted earnings of $252.1 million, or 19 US cents per share.
