AROUND 750 jobs are to be promised for Dublin in three major new investment projects. The Government is expected to announce the projects later this week.
Netscape, the US company which specialises in software for the Internet, is to set up a software centre for the European market, which will employ around 300 people.
Another US software company, Symantec, which is based in California, is to establish a 150 job customer services centre. The third project, expected to promise around 300 jobs, is understood also to be a software project, believed to be related to the telecommunications sector.
News that more jobs are to be announced for Dublin follows the revelation that IDA Ireland has finalised negotiations with US computer company Seagate on a major 1,000 jobs project for Cork. The proposal is not expected to be considered by the Seagate board until the end of the month and so the Government will be unable to announce it before polling day.
However, an early announcement of the three Dublin projects is expected. IDA Ireland will be particularly pleased with the attraction of Netscape, seen as a world leader in developing Internet related technology and particularly the so-called Internet "browsers" which allow users to trawl the world-wide web.
The Symantec investment, meanwhile, is the latest in a line of customer support centres being established in Ireland by major US corporations to serve EU markets.
