3Com has announced a new wireless public-access solution, which, it claims, offers data speeds of up to five times faster than third-generation (3G) cellular networks.

The company's solution is based on "Wi-fi" technology, which is capable of delivering up to 11Mbps of broadband capability, and claims to offer fast, simple and secure connectivity to public venues without having to wait for the deployment of 3G networks.
