Philip Walton may not be reaching the heights of former years but his nephew Brendan is showing that he has an eye for the game. In the recent Donabate Intermediate Scratch Cup the 13-year-old from The Island won three prizes. He finished third in the gross with a score of 82 but along the way he holed out his tee shot at the par-three third hole to cover the first nine in one-under-par 34. In doing so he scooped half the pot in the 2s competition and Donabate also made a special presentation for the hole-in-one.
Meanwhile the Philip Walton under-19 scratch trophy was won by boys' international Eoin Arthurs from Forrest Little with a 36 holes total of 158 in difficult conditions at The Island. Local Scott Diamond was second, four shots back with Ger O'Connor from Malahide taking third place.
