Wyer ready to take a chance

Lorcan Wyer expects to make his return to action after a month out with a broken left wrist and hand on Saturday

Lorcan Wyer expects to make his return to action after a month out with a broken left wrist and hand on Saturday. Wyer suffered the injury in a fall from Russian Rascal, trained by his boss, Tim Easterby, at Wetherby on October 31st, and as a result missed the winning ride on Easterby's Simply Dashing in the First National Bank Gold Cup at Ascot a week last Saturday.

But the jockey was given the all clear yesterday to make his comeback at either Wetherby or Sandown.

"(My specialist) told me not to fall off in the next three weeks, and if I do, to fall on the other wrist.

"It's been a trying time but I am still in one piece, able to feed myself, and I should be back at Sandown or Wetherby."

Wyer is hoping to enjoy better fortune than he has had over the last 12 months. He was out for four months after smashing his face in a fall at Aintree in November 1996 and was also sidelined for six weeks with a serious thyroid problem in August.

Meanwhile, three of Britain's hopes for the Hong Kong International races a week on Sunday were due to arrive in the territory today. Heading the trio is the Clive Brittain-trained Luso, who will bid to repeat last year's win in the International Vase under Michael Kinane.

Also due to arrive today are Roger Charlton's Wixim (Cup) and Sir Mark Prescott's Wizard King (Bowl).

Paul Cole's Posidonas (Vase) is due to arrive in Hong Kong next Saturday while Mark Johnston's Bijou d'Inde (Cup) and John Gosden's pair Decorated Hero and Russian Revival (both Bowl) are expected a week today.
