Boxer Carl Wright was last night being treated in hospital after collapsing on his way home from his British light-welterweight title fight at Sheffield Arena.
The 28-year-old Liverpudlian, who was beaten on points by Ulster's Mark Winters on Saturday night, was taken to Walton Hospital and had surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain.
John Morris, Boxing Board of Control secretary, said: "The Board are extremely concerned that Carl Wright was taken ill on his way back from Sheffield last night and I understand he has undergone brain surgery."
